Leadership

Leading others towards a common vision.

My Description of Leadership

Christ-like Leadership, Not Servant-Leadership

I understand leadership to be someone leading others toward a destination or goal. This I believe is the essence of this term. I feel that a best term to capture how leadership is conduct by the pastor is Christ-like leadership rather than servant-leadership. Anyone can model servant leadership but only believers can model Christ-like leadership.

Leadership is centered upon glorifying God and leading others to experiencing God’s glory.

God is glorified when Christ is exalted and the demands that he has placed on the Christian. The pastor is leading a church to experience and live that. This is why acquiring a vision is so important for the church congregation. The pastor should lead a church to finding out their why and the need that God wants them to fulfill.

Meaningful Quotes on Leadership

Servants and Friends Leadership book.jpg

"The Christian Leadership Center of Andrews University comments on the impact of this Scripture passage (Philippians 2:1-7) as follows: 'Some exegetes have suggested that the participle, being, in verse 6 should be understood as causal rather than concessive, so that it could read, 'precisely because he was God, he became a servant.'' Jesus thus would be demonstrating that it is the essential nature of God to be, among other characteristics, a servant. God is by nature a servant; it is not an exception to His nature." (409)

"When the early Wesleyan bands of Christ-followers got together in small group meetings, their first question to each other was 'How is it with your soul?' This is the best possible question for us as Christian leaders in light of Jesus' warning and in light of what we witness in and around us. So how is it with your soul?" (24)

"When we keep pushing forward without taking adequate time for rest and replenishment, our way of life may seem heroic, but there is a frenetic quality to our work that lacks true effectiveness because we have lost the ability to be present to God, to be present to other people and to discern what is really needed in our situation." (120)

"A number of helpful definitions of leadership are available, but we believe true spiritual leadership can be defined in one concise statement: Spiritual Leadership is moving people on to God's agenda." (36)

"Establishing that the leader's role is not to create or to sell the vision begs the question: what is the spiritual leader's role? It is to bear witness to what God says. Spiritual leaders must bring followers into a face-to-face encounter with God so they hear from him directly, not in-directly through their leader. (109)

"It is one thing to know where an organization should go. It is quite another to lead it there." (181)

Leading and Organizing Adventist Christian Fellowship

I have led and reignited our ACF chapter at UGA. The following are pictures of me leading the students to organize as an Executive Board and plan events.

This is our first meeting as an Executive Board for Adventist Christian Fellowship. We are planning for the Engagement Fair.

This is our Executive Board at the Engagement Fair sharing our club and passing out flyers.

We are meeting over zoom to discuss our first event as a club. Below are the pictures of students who came to our first event.

Athens GA SDA Leadership Meeting

This leadership meeting took place in November 2024. We gathered together because the church had a vision statement that didn't mean much for them. Also, they didn't know it. We gathered to better understand why we need one and also to brainstorm one.

Our vision statement for the church is as follows:

We live in Christ's rest, while sharing the gospel.

This is a video of us on our break getting up and moving our bodies. It was a fun activity.

Leading Spirituality at Atlanta North School

I led the spiritual environment of the school. One initiative I wanted to do was come to the classroom and share devotionals with them. I wish I had pictures of coming to the classroom and doing it while I was at ANC. The above picture is when I came back to visit and the 5th/6th grade class asked if I could share a devotional with them and speak to them. Below are pictures of my schedule and also how I organized it with the teachers.

Leading Playground Preparation for School Year

I organized volunteers to come spread mulch throughout the playground.

Led and Supported 8th Grade Spiritual Retreat

I participated and led in the 8th grade spiritual retreat which was organized by their teacher Yahaira Fernandez.

Led Digital Evangelism Club for Atlanta North School

This is Digital Evangelism Club. Things looked a bit different during the pandemic. In order to teach them how to still do evangelism, we learned social media principles and made fun posts for our schools Facebook page.
